berry christmas

Our usual family Christmas... Waking up one by one and waiting for the rest to do the same, I always go to sleep in fear that I'll be the last one up - and am glad when I'm not. That honor this year fell to Sumner, the youngest here, who ironically was also the first to bed the night before. Phantom's old age meant that the dogs had to watch from outside the room this year. After the presents were all unwrapped, we had Mom's breakfast casserole - another tradition (whose recipe I posted last year - link below.) Even without being in the middle of things, the dogs were wiped out, just like the rest of us. We rebounded for the traditional seafood chowder dinner, but otherwise it was just a low key night of hanging out together. After the stress of the last few weeks, I have absolutely no complaints about that.
