park views

Some assorted views of Olympic Park from my wanderings and walks or shuttle bus rides to and from work... From what I understand, this area was basically an industrial wasteland before it was redeveloped. The Olympic Stadium was designed by Populous and its future fate is undecided after a dispute between West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur to make it their new home. The London Aquatics Centre was designed by Zaha Hadid, and the Velopark was designed by Hopkins Architects. One of my favorite features is the area called ParkLive, with meadowed hillsides overlooking both sides of a huge video screen that sits in a creek. I can't find any listing for who designed that area, but its strange mix of relaxed energy creates a special feeling of community. Olympic parks tend to be controversial, some have successful lives afterward but many tend to fail. It will be interesting to see what the future brings for London's.
