arright...so here is part two of the post below [ho(tel)ing across europe].

This is my listing of where I stayed throughout my travels in Europe. Most of the places I recommend - a few I don't. I won't give addresses or weblinks to them all - if you google them or search their names on tripadvisor.com, you'll get all the info you need. I like a decently nice hotel (nicer than a motel 6) but not too highbrow - if you prefer something more on the luxurious or more on the very basic level, my recommendations may not be for you.

Hotel Beaumarchais, Paris - great location bordering the Marsais (3e) District and the Bastille (11e) District. Close to two Metro stops and easily walkable to Notre Dame etc. Comfortable clean casual rooms with bright furnishings, very friendly staff. Wifi is expensive.

The Bridge Hotel, Amsterdam - Beautiful little hotel slightly out of the main area of Amsterdam (note that Amsterdam is very small, so nowhere is very far). Amstel view rooms look out on the canal. Large bathrooms. Free wifi, but wifi signal does not reach view rooms at the front of the hotel. One subway stop from Centraal Station, close to trams too. Great Indonesian restaurant next door - get the Rice Table (rijsttafel).

Quentin Design Hotel, Berlin - this hotel is the SNL sketch "Sprockets" brought to life. Bring your black turtleneck. Great location in Schoneberg district between two U-bahn (metro) stops. Nice modern furnishings, extremely small rooms. Paper thin walls and loud housekeeping staff. Lots of attitude.

Der Tannenbaum, Munich - stay away. Basic, but linens are threadbare and carpet doesn't seem too clean. No internet service, despite advertising that they have it. Rude staff. (but great location).

Hotelissimo/Hotel Haberstock, Munich - very friendly staff, free internet. Great location next to the train station and at a U-bahn (metro) stop. Basic with small rooms, but large beds and clean bright furnishings, clearly recently remodeled.

Hotel Antiche Figure, Venice - amazing hotel. Beautiful huge rooms overlooking the Grand Canal. Free internet and extremely friendly and helpful staff. Large beds and very nice bathrooms. Location is right across from Train Station and across from Vaporettos (busses - but boats).

Eurostars Hotel Domus Aurea, Rome - avoid this one! Teeny rooms with less than one foot of space on all sides of the bed. Tolerable furnishings, but borderline cleanliness. No internet or wifi despite advertising it prominently. Rude staff.

Hotel XX Settembre, Rome - great surprise. Extremely nice hotel for low rates. Huge clean newly remodeled rooms and bathrooms. Free internet. Friendly helpful staff. Location convenient to Termini train station and Piazza Repulica, but slightly out of the heart of things.

If you're travelling to the cities I did, I recommend checking these hotels to see if they're right for you.
