a long time ago
Tuesday, I went to vote at SoFi Stadium. Living at the beach, I’ve been spoiled in that my normal voting location has often been someplace with an ocean view. Then in 2020, during the pandemic, I voted from the top deck of Dodger Stadium, and I wanted to cast my ballot this year from somewhere memorable, too. I hadn’t been to SoFi yet, so I was hoping some of the stadium might be open to walk through, but unfortunately it wasn’t. I walked some of the grounds and wandered to a nearby brewpub for a beer and some happy hour appetizers to help make a day of it. At that point, moods were generally high. All the signs looked positive and you could sense an apprehensive excitement. On the way back, I stumbled into two fantastic sculptures in Hollywood Park by Alison Saar entitled Summer and Carrefour. The stadium website states “Over eight-feet tall, this male figure serves as a mediator between the spirit world and reality. He embodies the critical juncture where choices are contemplated, and decisions are made.”
Needless to say, the world was soon to change. It already feels like it was such a long time ago.
