down by the river

I spent a good part of my weekend at Melbourne's Moomba Festival. It's held on the banks of the river in the heart of downtown, with everything from rides to plenty of food stands and nightly fireworks. There also are continual heats of waterskiing competitions throughout the weekend (I honestly never know that was a thing, but these guys were insane.) Another kind of crazy is the big Birdman Rally on Sunday. Similar to the Red Bull events in the US, people create their own contraptions and jump into the river with them under the guise of trying to go somewhere. They don't. But its a crowd pleaser and big fundraiser for charity. Monday was Labour Day here, I took the day off as well. I never made it out of the house, but I finally did get the rest of the trip planned and booked. Always easier said than done.
