what i did in rio…
So I sorta dropped off the blog before coming back from Brazil… oops. (No apologies cause I said I'd stop apologizing for on-again/off-again posts - so "sorry, not sorry?") At any rate, maybe this will be the beginning of a new on-again period. (I've been working on a new website for the last few weeks, so that's one impetus to be better about posting.) I've also finally cut together two reels of the work I did in Rio as part of the NBC Olympics team. Along with the usual overall Olympics reel, I've posted a separate one just for the Late Night package. Because it was its own distinct package within a package, it seemed worth separating to show on its own. That project was especially fun for me, because art directors Dave Barton and John Schleef basically said "do your thing" and we just ran with it. They wanted a distinctly different and younger look and feel for their Late Night show hosted by Ryan Seacrest, but it still also needed to work as part of the overall Olympics package. I used a lot of the same elements from the Olympics package, especially the midcentury patterns from the Ipanema and Copacabana boardwalks, but added flat blacks and much different pacing. Meanwhile, the overall reel shows a sampling of the different sport and scenic bumpers and advertiser mini-opens along with some of that late night package that I did as part of the team there. You can check them both out here on the front page of jonberrydesign.com. This Olympics may have been one of the most fun of all that I've worked on. Along with the creative challenge, it's always such a great crew of people that I'm pretty lucky to get to be a small part of, and this year was one of the best. (…And by the way, at some point I'll try to get around to posting more from the few days afterward I spent in Sao Paulo that I promised - er - months ago! Stay tuned…)
