The show open and broadcast graphics package for NBC’s Olympic Late Night coverage during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games was designed to complement the network’s broader Olympic branding while establishing a distinctly different tone for the evening program hosted by Ryan Seacrest. Where the main broadcast package emphasized the grandeur and spectacle of the Games, Late Night embraced a younger, more relaxed energy inspired by Rio’s nightlife, celebrations, and the off-field moments that define the Olympic experience.
Built around rapid editorial pacing, clean typography, and graphic transitions inspired by the iconic patterns of Rio’s Copacabana sidewalks, the package creates rhythm and movement while maintaining a streamlined visual approach. Athlete imagery focused on candid and celebratory moments rather than competition, reinforcing the program’s relaxed, late-night tone. Created as part of NBC’s Rio 2016 Olympic coverage under Art Director Dave Barton and Creative Directors Mark Levy and John Schleef, the package maintains visual continuity with the larger broadcast identity while giving Olympic Late Night its own recognizable personality.
