Lampoon our love of retro cliches by throwing in every over the top 80's retro reference you can think of, add a few references from 'Catch Me If You Can', and top it off with the (again intentionally cliched, but effective) Frankie Goes to Hollywood track that some of us (ahem) grew up with - and you've got the new ad celebrating Virgin Atlantic's 25th Anniversary, created by RKCR/Y&R. Its a fun little quip that seems to laugh at itself but is also making a splash and has people talking. If I'm not mistaken, that's the ultimate goal of advertising in the first place. And standing out and getting attention is one thing Virgin has always been good at. They seem to have proven themselves again here, both within the ad and by the reaction to it.
