magic pann's
I can't count the number of times I've passed Pann's diner since living in LA, but I've never stopped here. My friend wanted to go to lunch here right before flying out of LAX to experience the Googie architecture, and I discovered its an easy add to my favorites of LA list. I love that the place clearly knows its architectural significance and is respectful of it, the interior carries it through in a way that's clearly its 1958 original, not some attempt at recreation. Even the sculpted topiary hedges complete the place perfectly. And of course, the food was good too. I don't know if it was just because it was a weekday lunchtime, but there seemed to be a strange happiness within the Googie walls - groups of friends that seemed to be regulars were meeting for lunch as well as others that seemed to be enjoying the oasis from what lay outside. Next time you're in the neighborhood, take a trip back by walking through the doors. You'll be glad you did.
