hot rocks

I am in Palm Springs this weekend for a gathering of cops and firefighters. I've never been a huge fan of Palm Springs - its oppressively hot, without much of anything to do. The key to enjoying time here seems to be being somewhere that you can spend the day in a pool...which, isn't such a terrible way to relax I guess. Palm Springs does have an imprint of mid-century modern design which I have always enjoyed. Something about that combined with the heat and remoteness make it feel a little other-worldly. In a good way. Its the kind of thing that allows for hotel rooms with a boulder in the bathrooms to feel perfectly natural.
