One thing I love about Southern California, especially in the desert, is the willingness to embrace color. Smart uses of nothing more than bold color can make something very plain into something very special. These are some details from the hotel here in Palm Springs. They are finishing up a renovation that includes some strong use of color (the post shown is in progress). In the close ups, it may seem gaudy or overdone; but in context with the land and trees and sky (and heat), it actually works very well. Also is a detail from the floor tiles in my bathroom, including dog prints. Did they know I was coming?
