pole land

In 2000, LAX Airport added some large sculptural signage and a big light sculpture of colorful pylons marking the entrance of the airport. At first, I wasn't a big fan of them and thought they were kind of rushed to be done in time for the Democratic Convention, but over time I've grown to love them. Its nice to see their glow as you land, beacons to say 'welcome home'. But theyre most effective on the drive up Century Boulevard, where the pylons increase in frequency and height as they get closer to the main cluster at the entrance. Unfortunately, most people don't take that route to the airport. I'll have to take some better pics and dig up more information on these some day... later.
